Hollywood star Vince Vaughn has revealed he believes guns should be allowed in American schools and that a ban would not stop mass shootings.
The 45-year-old told GQ magazine he supported the right to own a gun and carry it in public.
Despite a series of shootings in US schools, when asked whether guns should be allowed, he said: "Of course. You think the politicians that run my country and your country don't have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do.
"And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won't rid the world of criminality."
In 2012, Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six school staff in a shooting at Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Connecticut.
The True Detective actor added: "I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don't have the right to bear arms because of burglars.
"We have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It's not about duck hunting, it's about the ability of the individual.
"It's the same reason we have freedom of speech. It's well known that the greatest defence against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back."
Vaughn went on: "All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They've only happened in places that don't allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people.
"They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings ... In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these ... schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds."

The yanks made the most of post ww2..
Everyone else was on their knees.
We owed them so much it wasnt long ago we settled the debt.
Not to say they have their very good points..managing to get a nation of immigrants to be so proud of the stars and stripes is no mean feat.
Very positive can do attitudes. And it is a great country to visit.
But everytime ive ever talked to an american..i always feel like im talking to a teenager.

See your point...but in this country you have to have a valid and good reason for owning a firearm.
For sport ..hunting etc...and fuck all wrong with that.
Anyone who has ever handled firearms in my experience are responsible people and tteat them with respect.
I would be horrified if our country had the attitude of some countrys.
Anyone who has seen the damage they do first. Hand would feel the same.

A simple qualifying question needs to be asked to idehtify whether or not someone should have a gun.
Q. Do you want a gun?
If answer is yes....then they shouldn"t be entrusted with one. :-)
So you think Peter Wilson (gold double trap shooting, GB, 2012 Olympics) shouldn't have been allowed to compete and win his gold medal?

In the UK if someone points a gun at you , you have a better than 50/50 chance that it is a fake

I'm not confused by anything.
I'm explaining to you that people use the word democracy in broad terms to identify a wide range of political systems that aren't technically democracies in the strictest sense of the word.
Under many definitions a constitutional republic can also be a democracy in the modern, broad sense of the term.
The response is a prime example of what I'm talking about. The people who like to quote the Constitutional Republic stuff like to think that the mainstream voters are just stupid sheep, while only they have discovered the "truth" with their anti-government views and higher intelligence.

Democracy is a word used by idiots like you to describe the political system of the country you live in and the plan fact is that you are wrong! If you truly understood, which you clearly don't, you would know AND understand what this Constitutional Republic was about and that democracy is killing it.
You are confusing democracy of voting with the democracy as a philosophy and that is due to the greed of the people as they vote for their unprincipled politicians.

The right to bear arms was written into their constitution in case Britain tried to retake the colonies. It meant that they would always have a standing militia.
